Get your lawn and landscape ready for spring.
|
Looking forward to spring....Well, we haven't gotten past winter yet! The first official day of spring will be March 20th. That leaves plenty of time for preparing your lawn and landscape, right? Well, don't feel like you have to wait until then. For some reason, outside jobs that must be done in the spring become enjoyable activities while they’re simply chores at other times of the year. Maybe it is the anticipation of a new season about to begin and visions of beautiful, colorful, wonderful-smelling blooms that are soon to blossom.
Lawn Care: It might be a bit of an unpleasant sight during and after winter, but with a bit of work, you can bring it back to new life. If you can see a fair amount of thatch (the dead, straw-like stuff) you will need to rake it out before you attempt any other lawn care projects. Why? Anything you add, such as new seed or fertilizer will simply sit on the thatch, rather than getting down into the soil, unless it is removed. Once you have de-thatched your lawn, you or we can add your first fertilizer application. This helps the lawn green and recover from winter stress. Weed control and crabgrass preventative should also be applied during this step. Grass Planting:
Grass seed can be planted in the spring and fall with good results. If you are planning a spring planting of grass seed, do not apply weed control products to the grass. Delay the weed control application until the grass seed has germinated and you have mowed the grass at least 3 times.
For a fall planting of grass seed, follow the same weed control precautions and time the seed planting to allow the grass seed to fully germinate before freezing temperatures arrive in your region.
We use the right grass seed and fertilizers for the right location growing areas of your lawn based on your soil type. The soil is prepared for the seeding, loosening of ground/aeration, depending if it's a new lawn or over seeding and seeding bare spots. Debris and dead grass is removed. Proper fertilization is applied. Seeding, covering with straw. Then a watering regimen. For more information or a quote for any of our available services such as grass planting, aeration, fertilization, spring maintenance, please contact us today! |
